Cate Strom (nee Stephanie Wilson Cate) was born into a creative family of writers, musicians and artists. Raised in Paris, France until she was fourteen, she then relocated with family to Los Angeles, California.
In her twenties, she moved to the East Coast to attend the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, to study painting.
Monumental architecture and especially spiritual places of worship have always held a great fascination for her. Her travels to places such as India, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Jerusalem, Italy and France have provided much of the poetic, architectural and spiritual subjects infused in her work.
Cate’s mixed-media process combines photographic transfers, painting and collage to create her unique imagery.
All photographs in her work are taken by her on location.
She cites Rothko, Turner, Kurt Schwitters and Warhol as her inspirations.
Cate currently lives in Ashland, Oregon but will soon be relocating to the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.
